Miles has been a leader in higher education–driven economic development for more than twenty years, advancing innovation ecosystems that translate research into real-world impact. As Vice President for Economic Development at UNLV, he oversees the Office of Economic Development, including technology transfer, industry engagement, UNLV’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Black Fire Innovation, and a broad portfolio of programs that accelerate the commercialization of ideas and foster applied research partnerships with industry.
Throughout his career, Miles has worked closely with biotech companies to support research collaboration, innovation strategy, and the commercialization of scientific discoveries. His experience bridging academic research and the biotech sector has helped drive translational research initiatives, industry-sponsored projects, and the development of innovation infrastructure that supports high-growth, science-based enterprises.
Miles also serves as Executive Director of the UNLV Research Foundation, where he oversees the physical and programmatic development of the UNLV Harry Reid Research and Technology Park, strengthening the university’s role as a catalyst for regional economic diversification, technology-based growth, and industry partnership.
